The Ohio Educational Credit Union (OECU) is committed to protecting your privacy. As a financial institution, we know that your trust in us is of central importance. This Disclosure Statement outlines the information sharing practices of OECU. We have established this Disclosure Statement to provide notice and proper disclosure to our members and non-member consumers in compliance with federal laws and regulations and to educate our members and consumers as to their privacy rights under the law. This Disclosure outlines how OECU collects, uses and safeguards your nonpublic personal information.
If OECU changes its information practices, we will provide you with notice of any material changes. This Disclosure Statement supersedes all previous notices or statements with respect to subject matters described in this disclosure.
The descriptions in this Disclosure Statement apply to our relationships with members and individual consumers who inquire about and/or obtain products or services from OECU for personal, family and household purposes.
How We Protect Your Information
We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who have a specific business purpose in utilizing your data. Our employees are trained in the importance of maintaining confidentiality and member privacy. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with state and federal regulations and leading industry practices to safeguard your nonpublic personal information.
Sources From Which We Collect Information:
- Applications and other forms you provide to us
- Transactions you have conducted with us and others (i.e. account balance, payment history and credit card history)
- Consumer reporting agencies that assist us in the processing of products such as loan applications
- Verification of information provided to us on loan applications (i.e. employment history, other financial relationships)
- Public sources (i.e. federal, state and/or local records on mortgage and/or lien information

Sharing of Your Information
In order to conduct our business, we may also disclose nonpublic personal information about you under other circumstances as permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct the operations of our credit union, follow your instructions as you authorize, or protect the security of our financial records. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction.
We also disclose information to complete transactions initiated by you, when you request or authorize the disclosure or when the law requires the disclosure. At times it is necessary to disclose information to enforce or apply the terms and conditions of an agreement we have with you, and to protect the rights, property, or safety of OECU, our members or others.
We may disclose all the information we collect to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf, or to other financial institutions with which we have a joint marketing agreement. To protect your privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of information we provide to the purpose for which it was disclosed. We do not permit these companies to sell the information we provide to other third parties.
Former Members
If you end your relationship with OECU, we will adhere to the information policies and practices described in this policy with regard to information we have collected on you.
What You Can Do to Help Protect Your Privacy
OECU is committed to protecting the privacy of its members. You can help by following these simple guidelines:
- Protect your account numbers, card numbers, Personal Identification Number (PIN) and passwords. Never keep your PIN with your debit or ATM card.
- Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, social security numbers, etc. to other persons. If someone calls you claiming the call is on behalf of OECU and asks for your account number, you should beware. Official OECU staff will have access to your information and will not need to ask for it.
- Keep your information with us current. It is important that we have current information on how to reach you. If we detect potentially fraudulent or unauthorized activity or use of your account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone number changes, please let us know.
